Winelands
& Township Tour
With the scrapping of
the Pass Laws and influx control in the New South Africa, people
who were originally denied access have been flocking to the
cities. As a result, sprawling townships and informal settlements
have mushroomed along the N2 freeway. These are clear to see on
the way out to the beautiful Cape winelands and the glaring
contrast is hard to ignore. Instead of sailing on by, we take you
on a drive through the shacks and give you a brief socio-political
commentary. We'll visit a women's self-help project where you will
have the opportunity to chat to the local folk and get a more
founded perspective of the colorful and complex land that is South
Africa.
Then it's on to the
winelands, where your day includes a cellar tour, a visit to the
quaint university town of Stellenbosch, plenty of wine tasting and
spectacular views during the leisurely picnic lunch on one of the
estates. We return home via Bloubergstrand for that classic view
of Table Mountain across the bay.

of these magnificent mammals. Keep an eye open for the newborn calves,
normally half the length of the mother. Don't forget those binoculars and cameras!

Cape Town harbor, you can visit the multitude of shops, restaurants,
craft markets, theaters, museums, and the aquarium.

Bird Enthusiast
We visit the World of Birds Wildlife Sanctuary in
the picturesque village of Hout Bay, one of the few very large bird parks in the world that offer you the real close-ups.
The sanctuary provides a home for almost 3000 birds of 450 species
from all over the world — many injured, living in the security of the
aviaries, others are endangered species, part of dedicated breeding projects. And some are visitors from other continents who have found a home with us.
From Hout Bay we
travel to the Rondevlei Nature Reserve, an important reserve for waterfowl. This permanent vlei has viewing hides and lookout towers which offer views of the many species.

Robben Island Cruise
We depart on the cruise from the Embarkation
Point on Jetty 1 at the V & A Waterfront. The
trip across to the island takes about 40
minutes;
it is separated from the mainland by about 9
kilometers of sea. Once a leper colony and
mental institution, and recently an infamous
prison for political prisoners, the island is now a
monument to the freedom struggle.
Once on the
island you will be transported around in a bus,
and the tour may be guided by one of the former
prison inmates, many of whom are now
employed as guides. The prison
housed President Nelson Mandela for 18 years.
