A delightful eight-day golf safari to entertain the most discerning golf player.
Intriguing excursions have also been planned at all stops for the entertainment of our non-playing
guests: see the Garden Route
for more information.
Saturday: Cape
Town
Your special journey commences from Cape Town Station on Saturday
morning. Lunch is served as the
Pride of Africa winds its way through the scenic wine farms of Worcester and Robertson.
Sunday:
George
The rail journey between Cape Town and George is considered one of the most beautiful in the world.
Play in George on the new Fancourt Links Course where the
natural beauty of the Garden Route is
captured, along with world class conditioning. Fancourt
Hotel & Country Club is considered South Africa's premiere golfing and leisure resort. Guests can
soak up the sun on golden beaches, swim, ride horses, bike or explore the nearby mountains and rainforests, home to a wide diversity of flora and fauna.
Monday:
Knysna
Monday's game has been reserved at Knysna's
Sparrebosch Golf Course. The course offers
breathtaking views over the Knysna Forest, the Lagoon and the Indian
Ocean with certain holes built right on the breach of the cliffs. Non-golfers will enjoy a visit to an Ostrich Farm. On Monday afternoon, the train departs Oudtshoorn for Port Elizabeth.
Tuesday:
Port Elizabeth
Spend the day playing the unique and challenging Humewood Course
situated on the sand dunes along the shores of Algoa Bay in Port
Elizabeth. The fairways are exposed, undulating and wide to compensate
for strong winds, and the rough is thick coastal bush. Those who decide
not to golf can visit a nearby game
reserve.
Wednesday:
Graaff-Reinet
Relax aboard as we pass through the Karoo heading for Bloemfontein. A visit to the historical
town of Graaff-Reinet is planned. The oldest town in the eastern
Cape, it boasts 220 proclaimed national monuments, and is known as
"the gem of the Karoo."
Thursday:
Bloemfontein
Tee-off at the Bloemfontein Golf Club in the land of
rolling prairies that drew the Boer pioneers as they made their Great
Trek across South Africa. Bloemfontein offers several museums displaying
haunting Anglo-Boer War artifacts, and President Brand Street is a
recreation of the early Boer town. Overnight travel to the Pilanesberg Mountains and Sun City.
Friday:
Sun City
Enjoy a full day at this magnificent resort with its outstanding
facilities. Two exceptional golf courses: Gary Player Country Club
and the Lost City Golf Course, are rated among the best in the country. Enjoy game
drives, balloon safaris and guided hikes at the nearby Pilanesberg
National Park. The park surrounds Sun City, and is home to a wide range
of animals, including the Big Five. A leisurely farewell dinner aboard
ends another spectacular day.
Saturday:
Pretoria
You arrive Saturday
morning at Rovos Rail's exclusive station in Pretoria where your memorable
golf and train journey ends.
