DAY
4:
We depart the hotel for the Jonkershoek Nature Reserve behind the town of Stellenbosch. The winelands provide wonderful opportunities to explore exquisitely furnished Cape Dutch manor houses and to delve into the history of the area. This afternoon we visit a local estate for a cellar tour, wine tasting and the opportunity to purchase the estate wines. Overnight at Welgelegen
Guest House This morning we depart on a cruise to Robben Island. Once a leper colony and mental institution, and recently an infamous prison for political prisoners, the island is now a monument to the freedom struggle. Tours of the island may be guided by one of the former prison inmates, many of whom are now employed as guides. Returning to the quayside at the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront, you will have time to browse the multitude of shops, craft markets, museums, and the aquarium. Those departing Cape Town will be transferred to the airport, or continue on to your next module. |
