The Augrabies Falls on the Orange RiverThe majestic Orange River—awesome yet inviting—is nature at its most unforgettable. The Orange flows through the Richtersveld area, a world of natural beauty, untouched and unspoiled by man. Spend days gliding along the wide waters encountering the many moods of the Orange. Relax as you enjoy incredible sunsets, nights filled with fun around the campfire, five-star meals, and peaceful sleep under the stars.

DAY 1: 

Camp Provenance in the Richtersveld areaDepart Cape Town and proceed up the N1, passing through Malmesbury, Clanwilliam, Van Rhynsdorp and Springbok, then through border control into Namibia. Passports are required for entry into Namibia. 

Arrive at Camp Provenance in the late afternoon where you'll be met by camp management and shown where to park and unload. Dinner will be available until 10 p.m. In the eating "boma" you'll enjoy mouthwatering cuisine and be introduced to your guides and other guests on the trip. 

Overnight at Camp Provenance   (FB—full board basis)

DAY  2: 

After a hearty breakfast and safety briefing to learn the do's and don'ts of the river, guides and guests paddle off downstream. On your first day on the river, you'll pass magnificent cliffs and the geological wonder of Snail Mountain before entering the ominous sounding Dead Man's Rapid. 

Each night is spent along the banks of the river, under the stars or in tents. Dinner is prepared over an open fire. 

DAY 3 & 4: 

Paddling down the Orange RiverYou'll paddle through many small rock islands and encounter various rapids during these two days on the river, ranging from a series of small rapids to the biggest and most fun — Sjambok Rapid! 

While the guides prepare lunch, guests can explore the stop areas: walk up to an abandoned mine, enjoy sensational views of the river and surrounding mountains, discover strange plants, and visit a working diamond mine. Upon entering the deep canyons of the Richtersveld National Park, you'll hear the unmistakable and haunting cries of the Fish Eagles. Spend nights at campsites like Witches, Scratch or Terraces.

DAY 5: 

After a two-hour paddle, you arrive at the take-out point. You'll be transported back to Camp Provenance for lunch and a welcome shower. After lunch depart for Cape Town, laden with unforgettable memories and a certificate to prove that you..."conquered the might Orange River!"

What you should plan to pack for your river experience.

Canoes are equipped with storage buckets for clothing and supplies, and a cooler box. There are scheduled departures twice a month for individuals wishing to join an existing group. The season runs all year around. Contact us if you are interested in a 4 or 6-night trip, or if you have a minimum group size of 10, we can tailor a canoe safari to your needs and time-frame.
