Round the Bend
River Camp
Breede River |
Round
the Bend is just 2˝ hours from Cape Town, situated on a meandering,
swift-flowing stretch of the Breede River just outside Swellendam. This nature and adventure camp is ideal for
teambuilding conferences, and pleasure-seekers wanting to get away from
the city. The camp boasts spectacular views of the river, and includes an expansive, thatched lodge which houses the dining and recreational areas, shop and bar. The large, adjoining patio has a BBQ area and huge campfire.
The physical challenges of the
Breede River and its many rapids, primarily depend on the tide. The
river is fullest and most thrilling in winter (June-August), especially
after the rains. But whether the tide is high or low, the trips are
always fun... even when followed by aching muscles the next day. A river
trip can take from a few hours to nearly
a whole day. Slower rapids give you a chance to enjoy the rich plant,
animal Along the river's edge is a 50-foot cliff where the vertigo-free can abseil. This adventure is a must! It is totally safe, thanks to the experienced guides, and totally addictive once you get the hang of it. After each fun-filled day, everyone gathers for a sociable evening in the dining area, and later around the campfire or bar. Mouthwatering bush cuisine is prepared by the kitchen staff and guides, and includes such dishes as roast lamb, crispy potatoes, salads, and home-baked bread. The socializing usually continues until the early hours, but the thought of those early morning wake-up calls motivates guests to drag themselves off to bed. The weekend cost includes accommodation, meals, bedding, activities, and the guides' fees. But the guides' enthusiasm and expertise may compel you to include a tip. A fully-licensed cash bar is available, but you can take along your own drinks. A memorable weekend packed with energetic spirit, fun and adventure, and wonderful hospitality!
