Indaba News, 1999 Felix Unite Unit Services, a division of Felix Unite Production Support, completed an unbelievable 1,200 jobs in 18 months of operation... a year-on-year growth of 300%. "There is no doubt that we are changing the way people do productions in Southern Africa," says director Rudi Riek. Unit Services is geared to assist the film and television industry by providing fully equipped and staffed unit vehicles—Mercedes Sprinters—equipped with every item considered indispensable on set. The company's Cape Town warehouses are packed with equipment for hire: everything from prop boxes to first-aid kits to luxury restrooms and exotic Bedouin tents. The Felix Unite branded easy-shades have been one of the most successful items. Imported about a year ago, they are hired out constantly and have been visible throughout Cape Town at film shoots along the Cape Argus Pick 'n Pay Cycle Tour route. "At first it was hard to convince people that what we have to offer is going to save them time and money, but after only 18 months we have become an integral part of the South African film industry, with more than 60 production companies on our client list," said Rudi. "Production companies have learned that they have to make only one phone call to us and we'll take care of all their needs. "I strongly believe one of the greatest contributing factors to our success is my staff's complete dedication to the company and the excellent customer back-up service we provide. Our clients see us not only as suppliers but as good friends they can count on when they are pressed for time.
